(I'm gonna miss you so much...)

December 02, 2012

What will you do when you realize the woman turned into a fox?

You'll be astonished with my red, red fur... so vivid, so soft. ("what happened to you?")
You'll touch me and caress me - dazzled. ("how can a creature be so beautiful?")
And I'll give you a healthy, spirited offspring.
I'll wrap my tail around your cold feet so you can sleep...
I'll stare you with my burning, narrow eyes. (you smile, amazed)

But don't forget, this feral being can not be tamed.
And then one day, when I'm incredibly hungry, I'll forget you...

And I'll eat you.

Costuro o infinito sobre o peito.
E no entanto sou água fugidia e amarga.
E sou crível e antiga como aquilo que vês:
Pedras, frontões no Todo inamovível.
Terrena, me adivinho montanha algumas vezes.
Recente, inumana, inexprimível
Costuro o infinito sobre o peito
Como aqueles que amam"
- Hilda Hilst, Da noite

Oh, Hilda...

It's cold outside, but it tastes like summer

You're in love with ideas, they say. And you know, you know... you can't deny it. Every heartbeat an epic poem, every whispered word an invocation. What would life be outside that?
You plunge in warm water, closed eyelids; the forecast says it's cold, but in here it feels like summertime.

We lay down, and the pain let up.
We embraced, and the pain let go:
No more scalding regrets,
no scorching remorse
that oppressed the soul,
that weighed like a stone on the heart.
You, on top of me, heavy, immense,
and I, feeling so light."

- Vera Pavlova, [We lay down and the pain let up] (in If There is Something to Desire, trans. Steven Seymour)
